Resetting the contextual ‘Open With’ menu in Mac OS X
Mac OS X’s contextual (right-click) “Open With” menu displays a list of applications associated with and able to open the selected file(s). Occasionally this list (and the icons associated with specific filetypes) can become disorganized.
To reset the contextual menu and Mac OS X’s icon-filetype associations, open a new Terminal window and enter the command below:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/ Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/ lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
… then log out and back in again.
