Radio 702’s interview with Core Group SA and CAB Platinum regarding Apple product pricing and grey imports

Several bloggers have recently raised concerns about the prices and quality of service provided by Core Group SA (the only Apple Authorised Distributor in South Africa ) and their iStore retail stores. My own experiences at the iStore in the Waterfront (Cape Town) have been horrendous; I now prefer to use Digicape for all of my Apple needs.

Radio 702’s Redi Direko had an interview on Monday, 29th of June with RJ Van Spaandonk from Core Group SA and Sharon Shawn from CAB Platinum (a store branded as an ‘Independant Apple Reseller’).

Core Group SA brands these Independent Apple Resellers as grey importers and raise concerns that consumers who buy products from these stores might have problems with their warranties, might not receive support from Apple, might be buying stolen goods, might be buying used goods as new, or might be buying goods that lack certification, while the Independent Resellers insist that Core has created a monopoly on Apple products in South Africa by being both an Authorised Distributor and a Reseller.
